11 Nov Vicks on your FEET?!
I read somewhere years ago that putting Vicks on your feet would help the symptoms of a cold and guarantee a good night’s sleep. I decided it was definitely worth a go so tried it on my kids when they next had a cold, it worked really well so we’ve been doing it ever since!
To start with I didn’t question why it worked until it dawned on me one day that it must be something to do with reflexology, I’d had a few great treatments myself from a reflexologist in training and was amazed about what could be revealed about your health, and treated through your feet.
At first we used to just smother the whole of the bottom of the foot with Vicks before getting into bed and would just let it do its thing but actually you can be much more specific with a little know how and a good reflexology foot map.
I have been told that the passage from the eyes to the ears runs just underneath the toes (not the big toe), the sinuses and nose are between the toes and on the toes (not the big toe) and the lungs are just below the pad of the foot, so I work mostly on those areas.
It doesn’t have to be Vicks of course, essential oils work equally well if not better as totally natural, eucalyptus oil is great for colds, lavender for relaxation and peppermint, ginger or fennel for digestion. By gently massaging a little diluted oil around the relevant area of your foot you can help to ease lots of ailments. I discovered that massaging the lung area on my son’s feet with eucalyptus oil has really helped when his breathing gets a bit wheezy, it is amazing.
This new info has opened up a whole new natural medicine for me, a cross between reflexology and aromatherapy for home use. I will definitely be studying the foot map in a bit more detail and investing in a few more essential oils so I can keep us all healthy without medicine.
So next time someone in your family gets a cold, get the Vicks on their feet and see what you think
