24 Apr Is it too late to stop climate change?
I don’t think so, but we need to act quickly…..
In conjunction with World Earth Day, celebrated just the other day, I wanted to share some of my thoughts around food and climate change, taken from my book #FeedingGoodHabits. It seems some of us at least are starting to gain a greater understanding of how we need to look after our magnificent home, before it becomes completely irreparable, but are we doing enough?
It is understood that around one-third of greenhouse gas emissions are created by the food industry, from intensively reared livestock to mass-produced agriculture, exhaustive food processing methods to excessive packaging, incalculable food miles to a growing lack of diversity, and ultimately the vast amount of waste that occurs from start to finish – including in our very own kitchens.
With this in mind, we need to be mindful of what we eat, not just for our own health, but also for the health of Mother Earth. Some examples include cutting down on meat and dairy consumption, eating more locally grown and produced foods, choosing to buy more organic produce – including growing our own. increasing intake of a diverse range of whole foods and decreasing processed, convenience foods, plus of course, using up everything we buy or grow so waste is minimal.
There is more in ‘A Note About Climate Change’ chapter as well as other references throughout the book, but this is a start.
Meatless Monday tomorrow is a good place to start too.
