A month without SUGAR… could you do it?

“Sugar is the sociopath of foods, it acts sweet, but it is really poison.”  Karen Salmanshan

#No-SugarNovember is this month’s challenge and if you are not in the position to grow a moustache for #Movember then you should definitely try to cut out sugar instead!

Sugar is understood to light up our brains like a pinball machine, much the same as if we were taking drugs. Addictive triggers are activated and the craving for more of the same begins. This is particularly relevant where sugar laden ultra-processed foods are concerned.

In my new book ‘Feeding Good Habits’ you will learn much more about sugar and how in the 60’s fat was ‘framed’ as the bad guy in a false research study in order to take the spotlight off sugar, which was being blamed for coronary heart disease. Sadly it stuck.

Low-fat, or even no-fat cookbooks became popular; many food products became low-fat and high-sugar, and the world’s health started to seriously deteriorate. It is now known that fat is way healthier than sugar and always has been, but they didn’t want us to know that and sugar has become one of the biggest demons of our time.

So I think it’s time for us to take back control just for one month. It will give your body – and brain – a well-deserved break, you may just find sugar is so sickly sweet after a month you no longer want it at all. At the very least it could diminish those cravings. What a result that would be.

There are plenty of naturally sweet treats you can still have without adding sugar, like the above apple slices, peanut butter and goji berries. The perfect afternoon treat.
