What are your default settings?

On a recent weekend away to the delightful city of Bristol, I was reminded of my chapter in my book Feeding Good Habits about default settings.
At the very lovely B&B we were staying at, breakfast was a self-service affair with cereals, milk, juice, bread, fruit and yoghurt laid out – a typical breakfast I guess – but not for me!
I don’t eat packaged and processed cereal – an exception is a good quality organic granola – although I prefer to make my own. I don’t drink milk – only alternative types like oat or coconut. I never drink carton juice – in fact, I rarely drink any juice, the fructose in juice is extraordinarily high. I don’t buy industrial sliced bread, even the whole meal variety – opting for gluten-free from my local bakery, rye sourdough, and homemade bread usually. Fruit is good – although I usually buy organic. And yoghurt – when I do eat it is Yeo Valley kefir.
Am I fussy? It probably sounds like it, but I don’t think I am, I just don’t conform to the food industry’s version of what breakfast should be. I eat porridge – always soaked overnight – and loaded with coconut milk, fruits, nuts and adaptogens, such as Maca. I eat good quality granola with kefir yoghurt, nuts, fresh fruit and Maca. And as a weekend treat I might eat rustic rye sourdough toast, with grass-fed butter and homemade marmalade. All washed down with a Yogi herbal tea – delicious.
I want my day to get off to a great start, so I fuel my body with the right stuff. That’s not being fussy it’s just that I won’t accept anything less than my amazing body deserves to keep all cylinders firing throughout the day.
It’s not rocket science!

PS I opted for bran flakes, bought a carton of coconut milk with me, and added my own nuts and a sliced banana, it was not too horrendous!
